Ski mountaineering

Cross-country skiing is one of the most popular activities during the winter months. The resort has up to 19 kilometres of slopes that are perfect for doing cross-country skiing. 

With the day or season Mountain Pass you’ll be able to access a total of seven slopes with a range of gradients. 

 

Routes in Pal Arinsal

The Pal and Arinsal sectors are home to six routes, which are open from 9 am to 5 pm.

Verdet - Pal

Night ski mountaineering circuits

Pal sector route – difficulty: blue, length: 3,820 m, altitude gained: 578 m.

La Carbonera car park → El Beç blue slope → El Planell green slope → La Serra blue slope → Pla de la Cot → La Serra blue/red slope → Pic del Cubil (2,358 m), via trails. You can also start this route at El Planell green slope, next to the building at La Caubella (1,900 m) – difficulty: blue, length: 3,230 m, altitude gained: 458 m, via trails.

On days when the resort organises activities and dinners at Pla de la Cot restaurant, La Serra blue slope (the section between the restaurant and the foot of the slopes) and El Planell green slope will be open for cross-country skiing until these activities have finished.

Arinsal sector route - difficulty: red, length: 5,000 m, altitude gained: 950 m

El Crest car park / Josep Serra chairlift stop (1,550 m) → Les Marrades blue slope → El Cortal green slope → Les Fonts blue slope → La Solana blue slope → Port Vell blue slope → Port Negre (2,500 m). Via trails.

You can also start this route at El Cortal green slope, at the same height as the Comallemple building and next to Refugi restaurant (1,938 m) - difficulty: red, length: 3,000 m, altitude gained: 562 m. Via trails.

Pal and Arinsal routes outside of the resort’s opening hours: 

Between 5:30 pm and 10 pm, ascent and descent exclusively by the night route permitted by the ski resort.

Between 10 pm and 7 am cross-country skiing – both ascending and descending – is not permitted in the resort’s skiable areas.

Between 7 am and 9 am, before the resort opens to the public, ascent and descent exclusively by the night route permitted by the ski resort.

Safety rules 

General rules of conduct for cross-country skiing in the skiable areas

  1. Cross-country skiing is only allowed on the routes indicated and the slopes authorised by the resort.
  2. Closed slopes must never be used. Respect the rules established for using the slopes at all times.
  3. Dogs are not permitted on the ski slopes or on the marked off-piste routes.
  4. Walking and snowshoeing are not permitted on the ski slopes and cross-country skiing routes. You must use the specific circuits and/or slopes set up for these activities.
  5. It is forbidden to descend routes indicated for ascending and marked off piste routes.

General rules of conduct for cross-country skiing at night

  • A head torch capable of lighting the way and reflective accessories must be worn at all times to ensure that you can see and, more importantly, be seen.
  • The established night-time routes must be followed at all times, both when ascending and descending.
  • Always descend on the side of the slope to stay out of harm’s way and to not interrupt the workers.
  • Take your time when descending as there may be machinery at work and motorbikes using the slopes at the same time.
  • Check the weather forecast and avalanche risk prior to going out.
